MATCH REPORT | Spain, beaten by Belgium in the U17 EURO quarterfinals (2-1)

Wasall, Inglaterra 14 Mayo 2018
The Spanish side's dream comes to an end against Belgium, after losing 2-1. The first half was favourable for our men, but the final 40 minutes sentenced the match

Spain reached the quarterfinals against Belgium at Walsall with enthusiasm, against a squad which had not lost any games so far.

The footballers had a clear mindset from the beginning, so soon, in fact, that barely ten minutes in Nabil crossed for Alejandro Baena to net the opener (8').

With intense pressure and closing off the Belgian side, the team sought the second goal against a Belgian side which looked for defence mistakes to make their way to Arnau's goal.

In the second half the tone changed and Spain started to struggle against a strong Belgian side. In the 41' Vertessen scored the equalizer raising the hopes of the Belgians.

Moments later an rejected ball by Arnau met Yay Mpie's boots and the second goal went through for Belgium (2-1).

Despite their efforts the Spanish side couldn't make their way past the Belgian barrier and saw the time ran out and their dreams of making it to the semifinals drift away. Belgium goes through and will face Italy in the following round.
